Update 10:52AM: It appears as though the tweet was not a tease for a Nintendo Switch release of Diablo.
Polygon contacted Blizzard who made an official statement regarding the tweet. When asked about if the tweet was hinting towards a new Nintendo Switch release, Blizzard had this to say:
“We can assure you we’re not that clever, [It was] meant to be a fun community engagement piece. We have nothing to announce.”
So there we have it – It appears as this was all just rampant speculation from the community.
Original: Blizzard may be preparing a major announcement for the Nintendo Switch in the upcoming weeks.
The company’s first Nintendo Switch title may be Diablo III, if the general gaming community is reading a very cryptic tweet right. The tweet in question shows a nightlight of Diablo’s head, switching on and off with the caption “Sweet Dreams“.

At the time of this writing, it is unclear which version of Diablo III this would be, considering that the series has received several expansions since it’s initial release. It is certainly possible that the game headed to the Nintendo Switch isn’t Diablo III at all, and rather, a port of one of the previous games such as Diablo II.
As a flagship title, Diablo III was one of the first Blizzard titles since Starcraft 64 to make an appearance to a console. Starcraft 64 was also the last Blizzard game developed for a Nintendo platform, so it is great to see Blizzard potentially looking to bring their list of software to the Nintendo Switch. Here is hoping that we receive a port of Overwatch, a game we feel would be a match made in heaven.
Diablo III is currently available for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
