Update: SEGA has confirmed that SEGA Genesis Classics will release on May 29th for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. The entire list of games that will be included can be found on megadriveclassics.com, once the site is operational.
Owners of SEGA Mega Drive Classics on Steam will receive a free upgrade when the game launches in May.
Original: A new leak has confirmed that a SEGA Genesis game collection is in development for current generation platforms.
The trailer (which has been taken down) was found and posted by SEGANerds.com, who confirmed that the game is in development for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. Strangely, there was no mention of the Nintendo Switch in this find, meaning the game may be dismissing the portable console, at least for the foreseeable future.
The usual crowd of SEGA Genesis games made their appearance in this trailer, including Sonic The Hedgehog, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage, but because the trailer was taken down rather hastily, it is unknown what will actually be included with this release.
A spokesperson spoke to GameInformer regarding the trailer and said “The gun was jumped a little bit there on the SEGA Genesis Classics announcement. When we are in a position to properly announce it, with an official release date and official SEGA communication, we will. Stay tuned!” Confirming that the game exists but SEGA is not yet ready to announce the title. We should hear more information of this announcement in the coming weeks.
