In a surprise announcement, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is now available on-the-go, with the mobile version soft-launching in Canada earlier today.
The game is similar to the Xbox One and PC versions of the game, featuring streamlined customization options specifically for mobile. An example of this can be seen when loading up the game, where daily log-ins will net battle points and pieces of clothing.
The Canadian Beta Test is now live for Android users, with the promise of a release a release in the U.S. very shortly. While the app was developed by Lightspeed and Quantum Studio, the original developer, Bluehole, mentions that they have supervised the development of the game, making sure it is as authentic to the Xbox One and PC versions as possible.
PUBG Mobile feels very similar to the other versions of the game, with 100-player matchmaking, unique clothing customizations, and a mixture of weapons and vehicles all spread across an 8×8 km map. It is clear that there is still some work to be done with the mobile version, but the app should appeal to gamers who are rocking up-to-date phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S8.
