Square Enix is bringing Dragon Quest 11 to the west on September 4th, 2018, for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. With that announced, they mentioned that the Nintendo Switch version of the game would not arrive until “much later”.
The Nintendo Switch version is being delayed as it requires further development to fit the Nintendo Switch’s specifications. “We are also developing the Switch version for Europe and North America, but development is expected to take a long time from a technological standpoint as well, so we still have a long way to go until its release“. Right now, there is no release window for the game, but it is likely that we won’t see a Nintendo Switch release until 2019.
With the consoles receiving the game, we learned that the Nintendo 3DS version of the game would not be arriving in the West. According to IGN, Square Enix told IGN that it would make much business sense to release the Nintendo 3DS version of the game in North America. “Our aim with Dragon Quest XI and the Dragon Quest brand is to grow the audience in the West.” Square Enix told IGN. “From a business point of view, it made strategic sense to release the 3DS version in Japan in 2017. For the West in 2018, it made the most sense to focus on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) platforms.”
Dragon Quest 11 releases on September 4th for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC via Steam. The game is also being released for the Nintendo Switch at a later date.
