The power of PC gaming will soon be coming to mobile phones, thanks to a new app being developed by Valve for Android and iOS. The Steam Link app launches the week of May 21 to allow gamers to experience their Steam library on Apple and Android devices.
Valve says the app is part of an initiative to extend Steam’s suite of services and accessibility, with the company also planning to launch the Steam Video app later this summer. The Steam Video app, as the name suggests, will allow users to watch Steam’s video content on Android and iOS devices.
The Steam Link app will support use of the Steam Controller, MFI controllers and other controllers available on both platforms, Valve said in a press release.
The announcement comes after a push for more enthusiast-focused gaming experiences on mobile, with Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds both making pushes into the mobile gaming market earlier this year.
Steam Link will only be able to stream games to mobile devices on 5Ghz WiFi or wired Ethernet networks connected to the host system.
