Minecraft’s anticipated Bedrock Update for the Nintendo Switch is launching on June 21st.
The Minecraft Bedrock update will introduce a variety of features, most notably, cross-platform play between Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS and PC players. Now, players won’t be bound to playing with others one just one platform. Other features include an internal achievement system, and Minecraft marketplace where players can purchase skins and texture packs effortlessly in-game.
“Bringing the definitive version of Minecraft to Nintendo Switch is a huge step forward in our journey to unite Minecraft players across any device,” said Phil Spencer, head of gaming for Microsoft. “We’ve worked closely with Nintendo to bring an amazing experience to the Nintendo Switch system’s dynamic and rapidly-growing ecosystem and couldn’t be more excited to deliver what Minecraft players have been asking for.”
The update has already made it’s way onto the PC and Xbox One versions of the game. Like on other platforms, those who own a copy of Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch will receive the update for free when it launches on June 21st.
“This new version of Minecraft offers players even more options to play anytime and anywhere on Nintendo Switch,” said Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. “With previously released content like the Super Mario Mash-Up included, players everywhere can experience what it’s like when Minecraft meets the Mushroom Kingdom!”
It certainly is a breath of fresh air to include quotes from two executives of different companies excited about the same announcement. Here is hoping the gaming industry continues to evolve and provides gamers with more options to interact with each other.
Minecraft is available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
