Nintendo announced their upcoming core Pokemon titles for the Nintendo Switch, Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! & Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!, launching November 16th, 2018.
Both games are based on Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition which released in 1998 in Japan. Twenty years later, players will revisit the Kanto regions in Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! & Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu. Dependent on the version you choose to purchase, either Eevee or Pikachu will join you wherever you go.
As seen in the trailer below, Pokemon: Let’s Go will make great use of the technology found inside of the Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Con controller. Now, players can use motion to virtually throw their Pokeball’s at “soon-to-be-caught” Pokemon, similarly to how players catch Pokemon in Pokemon GO. Additionally, the game can be controlled using just one Joy-Con controller, making the game accessible for those using their other hand for other things, such as playing Pokemon GO!
The trailer also showcases a multiplayer mode, with each player using their own Joy-Con controller. In multiplayer, two players can team up to battle, catch, and explore the Kanto region together. This is the first time a core Pokemon title has featured multiplayer – a welcome feature for the series.
Additionally, players can connect either copy of Pokemon: Let’s Go with Pokemon GO on mobile devices. Doing this allows players to unlock special rewards for both Pokemon: Let’s Go and Pokemon GO, as well as grants players the ability to transfer any of the first generation Pokemon directly into Pokemon: Let’s Go.
The company also announced the Pokeball Plus, an accessory for use with the Pokemon: Let’s Go titles. The Pokeball Plus appears to act as a controller for the Nintendo Switch while doubling as a compartment to store your caught Pokemon. When your Pokemon are stored inside the device, you can interact with them by rolling the Pokeball or going out for a walk as it counts your steps. The accessory can also be used with Pokemon GO.
We haven’t heard official news about the newest Pokemon titles since the announcement that Pokemon was in development for the Nintendo Switch during E3 2017. Nintendo may have more announcements planned for their E3 showcase when it airs on June 12th, 2018. Stay tuned to InformedPixel for the latest in Pokemon news.
