PUBG Corp., otherwise known as the studio who brings us PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, has backed out of their lawsuit against Epic Games.
Earlier this week, Epic Games Inc.’s attorneys received a letter from PUBG Corp. stating that the lawsuit between the games has been closed. Neither company has made an official statement as to why the lawsuit was thrown out, or whether or not an agreement has been made between the companies. Bloomberg reached out to Epic Games Inc. in Korea, but the company has yet to make a comment on the matter.
The drama broke out a few weeks ago when PUBG Corp. filed a lawsuit against Epic Games for mimicking the characteristics of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in Fortnite. While the lawsuit would not have held water in the United States, the lawsuit was filed in Korea, who holds vastly different copyright laws than in the West.
This isn’t the first time that PUBG Corp. took legal action on other games. Previously, the company filed lawsuits against Netease Inc., who was responsible for publishing two mobile titles Rules of Survival and Knives Out for blatant copyright infringement.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available for the Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices. Fortnite is available for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, mobile devices, and PC.
