The Nintendo Switch is quickly becoming one of Nintendo’s best selling consoles, now selling more than 23 million units since its release in March 2017. For those keeping track, that is double the total number of units that the Nintendo Wii U has sold.
Numbers came in from Nintendo of Japan’s financial results, showing impressive numbers for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo’s newest home console went on to sell 5.07 million units over the last six months, a 3.7% increase from last year’s sales. That is a difference shy of 20,000 Nintendo Switch consoles; not too bad.
The recent growth of Nintendo Switch hardware can be perpetuated by the release of quality software. In recent months, the Nintendo Switch saw the release of Super Mario Party, Mario Tennis Aces, FIFA 19, Dark Souls: Remastered, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, and come November 2nd, Diablo III: Eternal Collection.
Software has also been a huge hit, most notably with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. According to Nintendo, the game has gone on to sell more than 10.2 million units, with Super Mario Odyssey exceeding that at 12 million. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the third-best selling Nintendo Switch title, with more than 11 million copies sold throughout its lifetime, and that isn’t including the Nintendo Wii U version of the game.
More games are releasing on the horizon, including Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!, Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, and the highly anticipate Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. All of these games have their respective bundles, with the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Switch bundle releasing on November 2nd. At the time of this writing, the bundle is still available for pre-order via Amazon Canada.
