If you follow Insomniac Games on Twitter you will have no doubt heard all about the latest drama surrounding Marvel’s Spiderman on Playstation 4. Now I use the term drama very loosely. What actually has happened is ‘fans’ of the game have caused an uproar over the fact that the Spiderman suit from the Sam Raimi trilogy of films hasn’t been made available to use in-game.
This caused a lot of arguments within the gaming community about how the general public treats game developers when they don’t get their way—over arguably very trivial things such as this. Some of the complaints to Insomniac bordered on abuse and I, for one, feel like no game developer should be harassed over their work. To Insomniac Games’ credit, they handled the situation calmly, and today they added the Sam Raimi suit (cheekily tweeting about it being “Highly requested”). Check out the Spidey-Suit that caused such a stir below.
What is your opinion on this situation? Should Insomniac have given into the harassment or should they have stood their ground and said, “No”? Does this situation bring up some big issues within the gaming community and our expectations from developers? Let us know in the comments below!
