Well, Sony has just shown it’s hand for February, and there are a couple of important things to note.
One, it’s the last month for those who own a Playstation Vita or Playstation 3 to get some “free” games. Sony announced about a year ago that the subscription perks would be ending on those platforms come March 2019, so savor these additions to your library. The Playstation 4 games will continue, of course.
And two, Sony has upped the Playstation Plus Cloud storage from a measly 10 GB to a meaty 100 GB. As for the games themselves, this month Sony has deemed us worthy of receiving:
On Playstation 4:
- For Honor– a multiplayer action game for up to 8 players developed and published by Ubisoft. Players take control of their choice of historical warriors (Knight, Viking, Samurai or Wu Lin) and battle it out for supremacy. It received a 78 on Metacritic and has an M-rating (Mature).
- Hitman: The Complete First Season— an episodic stealth game (single-player) developed by IO Interactive and published by Square Enix. The player takes control of Agent 47 in mini-sandbox style levels, using puzzle-solving techniques to murder their target and escape. It sits at 84 on Metacritic and also has an M-rating.
On Playstation 3:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots— a single-player stealth-action game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami. Solid Snake is now older, and has one last mission he needs to complete on a futuristic battlefield against an old nemesis. It has a 94 on Metacritic and is rated M.
- Divekick– is a 2D competitive fighting game developed by One True Game Studios (an independent collective of competitive gamers) and published by Iron Galaxy. The gimmick is that there are only two attack buttons– Dive and Kick– which the player can use to move, fight, evade etc. It’s at 73 on Metacritic and is a T-rating (Teen).
And on Playstation Vita:
- Gunhouse– a part puzzle, part active tower defense game developed by Necrosoft games. The score sits at 70 on Metacritic, though it is for the Nintendo Switch version of the game, and has a rating of E10+ (Everyone).
- Rogue Aces– an action-shooter 2D flying game developed by Infinite State Games. It has an 80 on Metacritic (though again, its for the Nintendo Switch port) and also has an E10+ rating
It’s unfortunate if none of these offerings catch your eye, since next month it will be reduced to about one-third of its current state. Whether this will have an impact on the games chosen from here on out (doubtful) or on some other as-of-yet unknown plan Sony has in the works is hard to say, but it looks like it may be time for the PS3s and Vitas across the globe to begin saying their Ave Maria’s.
