Saber Interactive has just released a trailer showcasing the multiplayer combat of its next big title, World War Z. World War Z is going to be a game that is inspired by a movie of the same name that shares its name (and zombies, and that’s really all) with a novel by author Max Brooks.
This game itself is described as “a thrilling four-player cooperative third-person shooter featuring massive swarms of zombies that recklessly rush their living prey.” Players will be given the option to team up with 3 other players or bring AI into the story mode released with the game. Something I found interesting is that the game’s story mode will be episodic, and follow the plight of different characters, which is more like the novel than it is the movie. The game will also release with five different multiplayer modes whose combat is showcased in the trailer below.
The trailer first shows off what appears to be a pretty organized form of player vs. player combat. It is fast-paced, yet manageable looking Deathmatch style of play. The real stress will start when the “swarm” of zombies comes into play, and that’s when the real Player vs. Player vs. Zombie mode begins. The beauty of this take is that the momentum of a match can change at any moment, as you can’t be certain who the swarm is going to focus and players will have to prioritize focus between zombies and enemy players.
Players will be given the option to choose one of six different classes including Exterminator, Medic, and Hellraiser. These choices combined with the different game modes and the unpredictability (I’m hoping, at least.) of the zombie swarm should ensure that each match feels different than the last. Get ready for some panic-based decisions, because there is going to some chaos ensuing in this game’s multiplayer.
World War Z is set to release sometime in 2019 for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and on the Epic Games Store.
