Have you missed the murky depths of the ocean, travelling through an underwater base where scientific experimentation (and complete lack of regulations) have run amok? Have you missed exploring a city above the clouds in which a take on turn-of-the-century American Exceptionalism and other outdated concepts ran rampant? Do you miss exotic but epic sounding names for those locations (Rapture or Columbia, the two locations already described), or even just the quirky ones like Plasmids, Big Daddy(s), Vigors, Splicers, or Adam (a substance, not a person)?
If you happened to answer “yes” to any one of those questions, or if one managed to intrigue you, there’s some good news. A new Bioshock game has officially been announced on Twitter by the publisher 2K Games. This news immediately followed 2k’s announcement that they had formed a new developments studio, Cloud Chamber.
The connection? Cloud Chamber is the studio set to develop the new entry in the series, contains some developers involved in the earlier games, and is said, by President of 2K David Ismailer, to continue the series’ “powerful narrative and iconic first-person shooter gameplay.”
While they didn’t reveal any details besides the initiation of development, they did attempt to quell some excitement by stating that it will be “in development for the next several years”, so fans shouldn’t expect a release any time soon. Considering this revelation, it would probably be safe to assume that the next Bioshock will be released on next-generation hardware, as there were no specifics about platforms on 2K’s part.
The one negative that may have fans concerned is the original creative director for Bioshock and Bioshock: Infinite, Ken Levine, will not be involved. So as for how it may connect to Bioshock: Infinite‘s astounding finale, or whether they will once again take an entirely different route like that game did from its predecessors remains to be seen.
Are you excited about the new announcement? What kind of setting do you think this game will have? “Would you kindly” let us know in the comments!
