It’s about that time again! A new month with new game releases is upon us. Okay, maybe it is a bit past that time. I’ve been busy, alright?! Even though a few titles have already hit the market this month, there are plenty of releases still coming up. Without any further ado, here are 5 games to look for in February 2020.
Kunai. February 6, 2020 (PC, Nintendo Switch)
Speaking of games that have already released, let’s look at Kunai. Developed by TurtleBlaze and Published by The Arcade Crew, Kunai is an indie metroidvania whose protagonist is a tablet named, you guessed it, Tabby. An evil AI named Lemonkus has all but wiped out humanity, and it is up to Tabby to stop it.
The name of the game is speed and agility here. Use ninja ropes and jet packs to quickly traverse through new pixel environments. Upgrade weapons and abilities to murder mindless mechanoids on your quest for salvation. Make uwu faces when crouching next to the body of your latest foe. You know, the usual.
The color and art style looks good, the movement seems crisp and intuitive, and the variety of facial expressions Tabby makes had me giggling in the trailer alone. I don’t expect anything to revolutionize the genre with Kunai, but fans of metroidvanias should definitely get their money’s worth.
Necronator: Dead Wrong. February 13, 2020 (PC)
Combining deck building with real time strategy, Necronator: Dead Wrong is coming to offer a comedic approach into super villainy. You collect undead units for your deck and battle against “the goody-two-shoes of the Livmor Alliance” in a lane defense RTS. Work out the synergies of over 20 upgrade-able units and choose one of several commanders with spells, unique units, and individual narratives.
The Necronator himself is a cute little demi-god in the body of a chubby bat, and his voice is perfect. In the release trailer he is giving a “DED Talk” where he explains that his goal is to help you become the best conqueror you can be. Check it out below.
Now, when release hits this month it is only going to be early access. This means only 1 commander and campaign, and two tiers of units. The plan is to take fan feedback and roll out 5 total commanders and a plethora of units as the months go on. If you’re willing to help out the game while in its infancy, Necronator: Dead Wrong may be worth a look.
Beyond Blue. February 2020 (PC, Consoles, Mobile)
Time to explore the wonder and mystery that is the depths of the ocean. Beyond Blue comes from E-line Media in association with BBC Studios to bring players into a realistic representation of the ocean. You play Mirai, a scientist and deep-water explorer and are about to explore through the depth of the ocean with your new research team.
On top of working with BBC Studios (who are responsible for Blue Planet II), OceanX Media, and “some of science’s leading ocean experts” have been brought in to ensure the accuracy of the environments players will explore. From looking at the story teaser released last year the atmosphere they have created looks absolutely majestic. Also a little eerie, but I think that is just because the deep ocean scares me a little bit. Fear of the unknown and all that.
The game has been pushed back once already, and no concrete date is available for release. Hopefully more news makes its way to us soon and we can dive right in. That wordplay was bad, but I have no regrets.
Ciel Fledge: A Daughter Raising Simulator. February 21, 2020 (PC, Nintendo Switch)
The year is 3716, and aliens known as GIGANT threaten to wipe humankind off the planet. A young girl named Ciel finds her way onto ARK-3, a human city in the sky. Sounds almost dark, right? Wrong! Introducing Ciel Fledge: A Daughter Raising Simulator. Created by Studio Namaapa, an Indonesian indie game developer, Ciel Fledge puts you in the role of the titular character’s adoptive parent.
A time management sim, you can plan Ciel’s day-to-day routine, shaping what kind of human she grows up to be. You’re meant to keep track of her mood, and monitor her behaviour as she may abandon tasks or act independently of your schedule. There is even a match puzzle battle mode implemented in the game.
Not only does the game have multiple endings, but the kind of human Ciel grows into can be unique in each play of the game. This includes details all the way down to physical appearance. If you’re looking to get your nurture on and feel the pride of parenthood, check out Ciel Fledge: A Daughter Raising Simulator.
One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows. February 28, 2020 (PC, Xbox One, PS4)
Based on the mega-hit anime, Spike Chunsoft Co. Ltd. is bringing One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows to your game machine. It is an action fighting where you can play as a multitude of heroes from the series, as well as create a hero of your very own.
Battles can go up to 3v3, and can feature a unique mechanic where your goal is to hold off enemies until a hero arrives to save the day. A timer will appear on the left of the screen and performing combos and perfect guards will shorten the time until your savior’s arrival. An interesting mechanic, but probably necessary when your title character’s whole shtick is defeating enemies in a single blow.
There it is, 5 games to look out for in February 2020. What do you think? Will you be picking up any of these games? Are there any this month that you’re excited about that I didn’t cover?
