Nintendo has always done things the “Nintendo” way. What does that mean? Essentially, they don’t pay attention to what might be “popular” at the moment. It leaves that to the other two giant gaming companies.
While it usually works out for them (the Nintendo Wii and Switch are both great examples), they have some other, more unpleasant experiences (the Nintendo Wii-U). Hot on the heels of a new Paper Mario announcement, 4 more games are being added to Nintendo’s Online Subscription Service.
The Switch’s online service, while not as robust as Sony’s or Microsoft’s, has its own perks. There is no voice-chat or other amenities players are used to, so Nintendo has tried to sweeten the deal by other means. Instead of large discounts or a couple of “free” games every month, Nintendo’s online is basically just for online play.
The additional games aren’t released according to any sort of schedule; they are announced when Nintendo feels like it. Fortunately, this makes it a fairly cheap option at $19.99 for a full year (or $34.99 for a family account). They also promised to make it better for subscribers.
As for the additional games, there are 4 more announced to be added this month. For the NES, it is Rygar, a game by Tecmo released in 1986. For the SNES, we have Natsume’s Wild Guns, Jaleco’s Operation Logic Bomb, and Panel de Pon, the last of which was never available in North America in this form.
Outside of Japan it was called Tetris Attack, though the puzzle gameplay has nothing to do with Tetris. Wild Guns puts players in a sci-fi western shooter, while Operation Logic Bomb is an overhead action game. All 4 games will release May 20th, 2020.
So while it may not be consistent, Nintendo is still delivering the “free” games. They may be more obscure titles, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give them a try. Are there any specific games you think they should add? Let us know!
