From the developers Endflame comes Ikai, a first-person psychological horror game that has been confirmed for Steam in 2021.
Ikai had originated from the development teams clear interest in Japanese culture. For them they feel the theme came naturally, however they were uncertain about what approach they should take to make sure this piece of culture is done right.
They had envisioned several options as to what the genre should be. Eventually, they came to a decision and made Ikai into a psychological horror, as they felt it would show the teams potential in the best way possible.
The story revolves around the spirits of the past and the present of the priestess of the shrine, Naoko. She woke up in the walls of the unholy, formerly sacred shrine, not feeling dead, but not exactly alive either.
Countless creatures known as Yōkai (妖怪) were wandering the halls. Creeping around every corner, watching her every move. They seemed almost as if they were too close to being human, but also as if they were too close to being gods. The thin veil between life and death, had finally lifted.
In this title, you will be able to experience the horror and dread of old superstitions by the hand of these ghosts and spirits known as Yōkai as you explore the unholy shrine.
Around this shrine you will find protective seals, in which you will need to stay calm under pressure to write. You will be fine, as long as you stay silent, and don’t disturb the evil that lurks in the dark.
