It was a great weekend for fans of DC comics, and an even better one for Batman specifically. 3 versions of the character will appear in 2 different movies. There’s the Robert Pattinson noir-style The Batman, and then there’s The Flash. The Flash is said to have both Batfleck and the returning Michael Keaton.
When it comes to games, they haven’t pulled their punches; two new announcements look to shake up the gaming Batverse. The first is Gotham Knights, an alternate timeline in which Bruce is killed, only to have Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin step up. The second, and slightly more unique game is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which continues the Arkham series.
Arkham Squad
Fans had a lot to expect from DC Fandome and they delivered. The first trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League appears to keep the irreverent and darkly comic humor that was prevalent in the Suicide Squad film.
Rocksteady has confirmed that the 4 playable characters are those seen in the teaser trailer: Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot. As deduced by the title, the target will be Superman. As for why? It is speculated that the purple glow surrounding Supes is due to Brainiac’s mind control. Oh, and they have explosives in their heads.
All characters will be on-screen, making the game perfect for some co-op action. A second player won’t be necessary though, as a single player can have AI teammates and then switch between them. Unlike Gotham Knights, 4 players can play at a time, instead of just two. That should make for chaotic gameplay, much in line with the Suicide Squad ideals.
It takes place in Metropolis as opposed to Gotham, so the Squad will have a new full city to explore. There may also be some narrative surprises “because… you have a game where any of the lead characters can conceivably die and it’s not a stunt.”
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League continues the Arkham Series when it releases in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
