Do you enjoy water sports but don’t live anywhere a lake or the ocean? Did you play games like Wave Race 64 and think it could use a dose of anime? Or a more battle-oriented racing style? Well, you should know about an upcoming game if you aren’t aware of it already. Kandagawa Jet Girls is crossing the ocean for a Western release.
Jet Setting
The game involves racing jet-skis in Jet Races. However, each vehicle is loaded with 2 people– one for the control, one to spray others with a water gun (Jetter/Shooter). Players will have multiple “jet machines” and weapons to choose from, so strategy is more than just speed. The game is set in a Tokyo of the near-future and will feature 8 base courses to wade through, each with changing dynamics based on difficulty and the time of day. All of the character’s outfits and jets are customizable, including “positionable accessories”.
Developed by SHADE Inc. the story involves Rin Namiki, the daughter of a famous Jetter, who leaves her home to become legendary herself. She encounters Misa Aoi, they become partners and their bond deepens as they race together. If the anime is of interest to you, it has the same title and aired earlier this year.
Additional Editions
As for its release on August 25th, 2020 (outside of Japan), there will be Special Editions, a PlayStation 4 physical copy, Digital Editions and a Character Pass. The physical discs (only on PlayStation 4) will cost $59.99, while the digital versions (for PlayStation 4 and Steam) will cost $49.99. The PlayStation 4 “Racing Hearts” special physical edition is also available.
It comes with the game, a two-disc soundtrack, and a soft-cover art book (60 pages). It will all come inside a box illustrated with exclusive artwork by Hanaharu Naruko. If that isn’t enough for options, there is also the Special Digital Edition. With this, the player will receive a Senran Kagura playable character DLC. In the future, there will be a Character Pass that brings four teams from that series. There are two in the base roster already, and the pass will be $29.99 for the eight additional characters.
If it’s a game that interests you, you may want to start investigating the options now because it might only get more complicated.
