Fans of the table-top RPG of the same moniker and The Witcher video games will have to wait longer for Cyberpunk 2077. While the game has been pushed back multiple times at this point (originally set for April 2020), the Cyberpunk 2077 release date is postponed again. As one of the most highly anticipated games of this year (and arguably this console generation), this is a move very few will be happy about. But sometimes it has to be done.
Breathtaking Delay
With all eyes on them, CD Projekt Red can’t afford to release an inferior product. The Witcher games, and especially The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, set an enormous standard as to what gamers can expect from the developers; the Witcher’s steel and silver swords cast a shadow over Night City.
If they were to somehow mess this up, it would look twice as bad. A customer-centric focus can’t save a bad release so CD Projekt Red is taking their chances with another delay. It’s guaranteed the workers at the company aren’t thrilled about it either, but how else will gamers be able to alter the size of the genitalia for their in-game characters?
The new release date is now December 10th, 2020. The developers have stated that it is due to a Day One patch; also that they have to test 9 different versions for all platforms. It’s only a couple of weeks more, but at this point, even that raises speculation as to the game’s condition.
I’m sure it will be great at release, but when you consider how other games were at release (Fallout 76, Anthem etc.), the confidence wanes a little. Sure, those are live service games, but when taking into account all that Cyberpunk 2077 is trying to accomplish…it doesn’t seem impossible. Not that I would bet against them.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release on December 10th, 2020 for Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The next-generation versions will arrive in 2021 (barring any delays), and multiplayer some time after that.
