Do you have a phone? That’s the question you’ll be asking yourself (and no, not because of Blizzard) next year. Mobile games continue to expand and create their own niche in the video game market. What started with a big game here and there, like Angry Birds, CandyCrush has now begun to attract whales. Nintendo, the last company anyone thought would expand their IP to mobile, has even done it.
Games like Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp brought well-known characters along for the trip. As mobile games become a larger aspect of people’s travel requirements, the games will get larger, and maybe even less predatory. The already-released-in-Japan mobile game KonoSuba: Fantastic Days will expand worldwide next year.
This is possible due to collaboration between Nexon, Kadokawa, and developer Sumzap. The game will feature the story and characters from the original series and its anime adaptation. But the developers don’t stop there; all new stories and characters will be introduced in the game. The Japanese voice-actors Jun Fukushima and Sora Amamiya will be voicing their characters Kazuma and Aqua, respectively. Others, like Megumin and Darkness, will also appear.
A Collect Call
The game itself is a “free-to-play character-collection RPG for iOS and Android”. It was initially released in Japan in February 2020 and has grown to become very popular among fans. The official website is now live, so if you have an interest, you can check it out here (though there isn’t much at the moment).
As for the game’s expansion to worldwide audiences, there isn’t much specified besides a 2021 release. So, either sign up at the site, or just keep checking your mobile app store. It will be there eventually. KonoSuba: Fantastic Days is out now in Japan on mobile. The game will expand worldwide next year and will be free-to-play.
