It’s been a busy week for the Xbox Series X. Earlier, Taika Waititi’s commercial with a Master Chief/cat DJ released, and now we get a look at next year. That’s even before any kind of announcement that might occur at The Game Awards. If you need to know whether to upgrade to a new console, Microsoft detailed some Xbox plans for 2021.
First and most obvious is their reliance and focus on Game Pass. Microsoft said that its Cloud Gaming (beta) will be coming to iOS and PC in 2021 with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. As for their plan of attack?
They plan on “embracing multiple devices and providing a consistent Xbox experience wherever you log in.” In other words, players will have access through “Xbox Series X|S, PC, Xbox One, Android device or – starting in Spring 2021 – Windows PC and iOS device from the cloud.”
Also in Spring 2021, Microsoft will make “cloud gaming [a] part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate available on Windows PCs through the Xbox app and browser, and iOS devices through [a] mobile web browser.”
But more importantly, Microsoft will be bring cloud gaming and Xbox Ultimate Game Pass to new markets. These include Australia, Brazil, Japan, and Mexico where they began their limited Project xCloud Preview Program.
Finally, Microsoft finished with a message to stay tuned to The Game Awards, where there will be more surprises. There is also a list of upcoming titles to both the platform and/or Game Pass.
Strangely, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II (literally the only Xbox Series X exclusive I want to play, as Scorn and The Medium will probably appear elsewhere eventually) is missing. At first I thought the list may only be games releasing next year, but there are no dates specified anywhere.
But one thing is for certain after Microsoft detailed some plans for Xbox in 2021. Whether you own an Xbox or not, Microsoft wants you to play on their platform.
