January will be kicking off 2021 with a big AAA release that many are waiting for; The Medium. Developed by Bloober Team, this psychological horror game is expected to scratch our Silent Hill itch. With only days away from the game’s release, we have been gifted with a new video showcase detailing nine uncanny facts.
Bloober Team have great experience in the horror genre. They are the team that brought us previous gems, such as: Blair Witch and Layers of Fear. Therefore, The Medium looks like it is in very good hands.
So, what’s the video all about then?
The short video showcase offers a few titbits behind the development of the game, as well as Easter Eggs. For example, did you know the game’s eerie Niwa hotel is based on a real hotel in Bloober Team’s hometown? The nine uncanny facts also gives us a sneak peek behind the scenes and some gameplay tips.
Just in case you do not know about The Medium, allow me to divulge. The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game with a dual-reality gameplay. With this unique mechanic, the player can instantaneously switch between two realities.
Playing as Marianne, a medium, the player must explore the real and spirit world to unravel a dark mystery. Using your psychic abilities, solve the various puzzles as you progress through the game.
Fans of Silent Hill will be right a home here
Although the dual-reality gameplay is patented by Bloober Team, one can appreciate the subtle nod to Silent Hill games. In addition, Akira Yamaoka, known for his masterpiece of a score from Silent Hill, has joined the team. Yamaoka is working together with Arkadiusz Reikowski, creating a distinctive atmosphere across both in-game worlds.
The Medium will be available for Xbox Series S and X, as well as PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store on January 28th, 2020. Although a day one release on Xbox Game Pass, the game can be pre ordered for purchase here at $49.99/£41.74 with a 10% discount before launch.
Pre ordering via Steam will give players The Medium Original Soundtrack and The Art of The Medium. Be sure to keep a look out for our review of The Medium, which will be coming shortly. For a wider array of gaming news, visit Informed Pixel and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
