The Lovecraftian survival horror game Song of Horror has released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox consoles. Initially releasing on PC in 2019 to high critical acclaim, the console release is accompanied by a new launch trailer.
Song of Horror is a third-person survival horror inspired by authors such as H. P. Lovecraft & Edgar Allan Poe. Additionally, the game pays tribute to classic survival horror games, such as Resident Evil, with its fixed camera angles and lack of combat.
You can choose from a cast of more than ten varied characters in the game as you investigate the disappearance of the famous writer, Sebastian P. Husher and his entire family. Each character brings their perspective to the case, approaching the clues differently.
A Classic Yet Familiar Breed of Horror
Exploring locations such as a mysterious antique shop, a forgotten abbey, and an abandoned mental hospital, players will have to evade an evil dark entity known only as The Presence. With no means to fight back at their disposal, the player’s character can only run, hide, and stay silent to avoid triggering annoying encounters with the supernatural.
The characters can be caught by The Presence and die. With permadeath, the player’s actions and decisions will shape the world around them. Your progress won’t be lost, thankfully, and the next investigator will pick up right where the last left off, so spend your time wisely.
What makes Song of Horror unique is the advanced AI behind The Presence. It will watch & learn how you play, accurately respond to your actions, hunt you, make you feel vulnerable. The game builds tension naturally instead of relying on scripted sequences.
Developed by Protocol Games, studio co-founder Carlos G.F. Grupeli said, ‘We want to bring it to an audience that truly appreciates real scares.’ With Xbox gamers recently welcoming The Medium as the first Xbox Series X exclusive, survival horror roots appear to have quite the enduring appeal.
