The Farm 51 has dropped the latest trailer for its final patch for the indie post apocalyptic RPG Chernobylite. The trailer provides details on the games extensive lore and main story, as well as giving us a look at the wasteland that is the exclusion zone.
The upcoming RPG looks to be a return to the hardcore roots of titles like Stalker and where decisions are tangible and affect the world around the player.
Meet Igor and the Black Stalker
The newest trailer explores the game’s lore in detail, and focuses on giving us insight on the protagonist motivations for returning to the apocalyptic land.
The player character known as “Igor” is a former power plant employee, who has returned in search of his fiancé. Along the way he bumps into several colourful characters, and the games potential antagonist, the Black Stalker who seems to share a history with Igor.
Explore, craft, build and survive
The game places an emphasis on forcing the player to scavenge for precious resources, as well as investing those resources in crafting new weapons and gear. On top of that, the player can also build a base in order to stash their acquired loot, whilst also managing their quests and companions.
Decision matters
In true RPG fashion Chernobylite asks you to make tough decisions that affect not just you, but the world around you. These choices range from who you choose to work with, right down to where you spend your resources, creating a playthrough that is tailored to your style.
Things that go bump in the night.
Beyond the standard post apocalyptic encounters, Chernobylite also looks to have a strong horror flavour, with nightmarish visions and strange creatures stalking the wasteland.
It’s clear from the trailer that all is not what it seems. Adding to the horror will be the players careful management of resources and scarce ammunition, so be sure to make your shots count.
Chernobylite is set to be releasing from early access on July 28th, 2021, on Steam, GOG and Epic game store. A port for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles is set to come after.
With an intriguing premise and deep RPG mechanics Chernobylite looks to be a potential indie darling for fans of Stalker and Metro. What did you think of the trailer?
