Hello everyone and welcome to Informed Pixel. If you’re a first time reader here, then welcome. We’re a geek culture site that covers gaming news, vtubers and more.
Another thing we like to do is Q&As with folks all across the gaming industry, from CEOs to Voice Actors. We’ve also done Q&As with VTubers before too. In this Q&A, we’ll be talking to three Virtual YouTubers from NIJISANJI.
Introductions
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Virtual YouTubers, they’re essentially YouTubers that take on the form of a digital character. They’ve become very popular over the past two years, so much so that they’ve gained an audience worldwide.
In this Q&A, we’ll be talking to three members of NIJISANJI ID, an Indonesian focused section of NIJISANJI. NIJISANJI is one of the largest VTuber groups there is currently. NIJISANJI does a better job explaining exactly what they do, so please enjoy this explanation taken from their site.
“NIJISANJI project is a VTuber group featuring a variety of talented influencers who create exciting content. The objective of this project is to accelerate the beginning of the next generation of entertainment through various activities and services such as events, goods and digital content, original music, etc. Currently, over a hundred VTubers are active, regularly creating unique content on various video streaming platforms, such as YouTube.”
Now that introductions are out of the way, we can move onto the real reason we’re here. Today we’ll be going through some answers to questions given to NIJISANJI ID’s famous first wave, often named the ‘3SetBBQ’.
This 3SETBBQ nickname was given to the first three members (also known as the first wave) of NIJISANJI ID. This consists of Hana Macchia, Taka Radjiman and ZEA Cornelia.
Questions and Answers
We asked the members of 3SetBBQ the same questions, to see what really makes them stand out from one another. We’ll be releasing this Q&A as individual Q&As in the future too, should one member catch your interest the most.
A huge thank you to the NIJISANJI team and NIJISANJI ID for giving us the opportunity to send some questions across. Please enjoy the answers we got from the members of 3SetBBQ below.
Question: What was your first video game?
“In my memory? Tetris! Till this day one of my comfort games to go to.”
-Hana Macchia
“Crash Bandicoot Trilogy on PlayStation 1.”
-Taka Radjiman
“SimCity 2000 on PC, and Digimon World on PS1.”
-ZEA Cornelia
Question: What do you think of the current state of video games?
“Video games have been evolving more and more into something diverse, but at the same time falling a bit to specific trends nowadays that it’s almost kind of hard to get excited by them. However, sequels and such to beloved franchises have been very exciting!”
-HANA MACCHIA
“It seems that the live service type of game is dominating the market right now. I do play some of it and enjoy it, but I miss the times when games are supposed to end when they are released, and we need to wait for a sequel or move on to another title.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“It’s nice to see that there are a lot of more varieties in the games and the creators! However, I find it hard to follow most trending games, since what’s very popular is usually not up my alley.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: What video game character influenced you most?
“Crash Bandicoot. Undoubtedly. The amount of “Whoa!” I reference and the overall eccentric behaviour is right up my alley of stupid funny.”
-HANA MACCHIA
“Megaman. I have an incredible interest in games that have boss rush or fighting many bosses kind of gameplay like Megaman, Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, Sekiro, etc.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“Li’l Cactus from Legend of Mana! He’s a very shy but also a mischievous character who at first just sits silently inside the protagonist’s house. As time goes on, it shows that he keeps a very silly, cute diary of his own perspective over the protagonist’s adventures, and eventually has a chapter of his own. I relate to the lil guy so much.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: What was your first console?
“Oh boy, I never actually owned one myself, usually I just play my dad’s consoles, but I remember him giving me a Gameboy Advance that was fully for me, so there’s that!”
-HANA MACCHIA
“Sega Mega Drive 2 was the one that I purchased on my own for the first time.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“PS1. I was a little bit late on the trends!”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: If you could play 1 game forever, what would it be?
“1 game is really hard to choose… but… Fall Guys, I really really like Fall Guys.”
-HANA MACCHIA
“Final Fantasy XIV Online.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“I honestly don’t know. I rarely replay any games if at all, because I enjoy the first experiences through a game the most.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: Do you think VTubers help the gaming industry?
“I feel like it always had the same impact as streamers in general, yes. There’s a lot of games being released everyday and having your favourite VTubers stream one of them will shed a light to it and help give it the promotion it needed to stand out in the industry, especially if it’s a really good and unique game.”
-HANA MACCHIA
“VTubers or content creators in general help the gaming industry by spreading the word of the game. I do not think that content creators disengage games from players. Most of the time, people see video games from content creators or social media posts before it reaches the customers from the publishers.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“Not only VTubers, but all content creators that help spread the hype or awareness about games definitely help the gaming industry! Nowadays, I know most games from my favourite YouTubers/VTubers too. Even if I don’t know/follow those games myself, I feel like I appreciate the games through them, and came to like some too eventually.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: What is the cutest scene you have seen in a video game?
“Uhhh, when Doom Guy gives a fistbump to small figurine Doom Guy. That’s f**king adorable.”
-HANA MACCHIA
“In the game Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, you can double hold your pets.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“Literally almost every scene possible in Pokemon Snap, man. ESPECIALLY the little interactions between the Pokémons. I really love Pokémon, and monsters in general.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: What is your worst video game experience?
“I really bought into the hype of Pokémon Sword/Shield, and it backfired because I disliked it. It was my first Pokémon game and it was a very weird experience.“
-HANA MACCHIA
“Whenever the save file of Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald decided to corrupt after finishing the Elite Four.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“My memory cards that used to always magically need reformatting, thus deleting all my save files in the past. I’ve never really finished many games because of that.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: What is your most memorable moment as a VTuber?
“Mick Gordon visiting my stream will forever go on as my crowning glory, like, I don’t even care about numbers or milestones anymore, that was my peak career right there. Absolutely love his work.”
-HANA MACCHIA
“Every moment where everyone can just enjoy watching me doing dumb or silly stuff while still being aware that we’re all tired with our own terms, and we’re all just trying to enjoy our life a little bit.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“Each and every moment is memorable, tbh. But, I’d have to say one is when I’m playing a game that the audience didn’t know about, and they come to also like the game through my streams! For me, moments of sharing, whether it’s about a favorite game, or even as trivial as talking about your favorite food, and eventually coming to an understanding of the other party is always precious.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
Question: Do you think a game like dark souls should have an easy mode? Would it not hurt the artistic value of the original design?
“Absolutely do NOT give Dark Souls an easy mode. I agree with the fact that it’s definitely going to hurt it’s artistic value if you make it easier. Of course, hard games are not very friendly towards people who just want to have fun, but Dark Souls has kind of made a name for itself for being a very difficult game; so don’t change that. It’s iconic. Maybe a special game journalist mode. Maybe.”
-HANA MACCHIA
“I’m someone who enjoys this genre a lot. I think the game as it is, is already beautiful. The effort to keep on trying, is what makes this game appealing to me.”
-TAKA RADJIMAN
“I don’t think it should. Some games are made to be difficult and challenging, and that’s part of what makes it charming. I for one am not skillful enough in games, but I really enjoy trying my best in those kind of games, and I love watching people who plays and struggle through it too.”
-ZEA CORNELIA
