On May 24th, 2019, 1047 Games released their free-to-play game Splitgate on Steam and brought it over to consoles. The console Open Beta started on July 13th, 2021, and has since achieved much success during its debut week!
The game features unique FPS gameplay, most notably a mix between Halo and Portal. This exciting concept has certainly attracted large audiences! 1047 Games have announced that the game has received over 600,000 downloads since they have started the Open Beta.
A Splitting Success!
“I want to sincerely thank every single player who has taken a chance on our game. From its small beginnings as a student project when we were in college to today, where we’re on the verge of launching across two generations of consoles, this is a dream come true for me and the result of incredibly hard work by everyone at our studio.”
Ian Proulx, CEO and co-founder of 1047 Games.
Due to this, the servers have had to be scaled to accommodate the massive increase in players. However, the expanse is so immense that the servers are still having a hard time handling players! While usually a bad thing, it shows how popular and successful the game is, despite only being in the beta stage!
“So far our community has been gracious and understanding of our downtime as we work to release various bottlenecks that have occurred as more people jump in to play. We are a small, growing team and are working around the clock to make sure that our transition to launch is as smooth as possible so that as many people who want to play can jump in without issues.”
Nicholas Bagamian, CTO and co-founder of 1047 Games
Splitgate will be available on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X on July 27th, 2021. The game will be Free-To-Play, so those wanting to join in immediately will be in luck. In the meantime, the Open Beta is still open and has been extended! So if anyone is looking to see what this game is about will have time to do so.
