Today marks a sad but exciting time for Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, as the 5th free title update will release on April 20th, 2023. After this, there will be one more final update in June, which hopefully means news of the next Monster Hunter title will be revealed soon. Below is a brief summary of all that was revealed during today’s digital event.
New Monsters to Hunt!
The digital events’ first grand reveal is Amatsu (アマツマガツチ (Amatsumagatsuchi), a legendary Elder Dragon that controls the weather. This particular monster was first introduced in the Japanese-only title, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, and reappears again in Generations Ultimate, in terms of main titles. This fearsome monster is seemingly tied to one of the in-game merchants, Kagero, who is approaching the battlefield where Amatsu is causing havoc. For more on Kagero and Amatsu’s tie-in, the official Monster Hunter Twitter account reposted some lore following the digital event.
Following Amatsu is the announcement of Risen Shagaru Magala, the next Risen Elder Dragon to be added to Sunbreak. Risen Elder Dragons are more fearsome than their counterparts (as if they weren’t tough enough) and bring with them extra toughness, aggressiveness, new abilities, and new attacks.
Special Investigations And New Melding Technique
Moving forward, Special Investigations are being added to the game, posing great challenges for hunters that have true confidence in their strengths. These monsters will be upgraded with a variety of power-ups, becoming the toughest versions of themselves. More information can be found below in the image found on Monster Hunters’ official website.
In addition, “Qurious Melding” ( Melding is a way to craft powerful talismans with special skills on them) has been added to the game. These talismans are made using special afflicted materials found during Anomaly quests. This method of crafting looks to craft higher-grade talismans more easily, but we are unsure if it’s consistent or not.
Event Quests & Paid DLC
Event quests rewarding cool or whacky-looking armour/weapons have always been a staple to the Monster Hunter series. After all, who wouldn’t want to make their hunter look like a muscular macho man (or girl) or dress up your felyne in a dapper detective outfit? That being said, new event quests have been added that reward new layered armours and poses. Additionally, new layered armour, hunter voices, face painting, hairstyles, stickers and a new costume set will be available via paid DLC.
Ending the presentation, we are teased with some footage of Dame Fiorayne about to face off with the last monster to be added to the game. So, we can expect another free update coming in June and hopefully more information in the coming months. It’s also worth noting that this title update is releasing on the Switch and PC versions, as Sunbreak hasn’t launched on Xbox and PlayStation yet. Ver.14 and onward will hit after Summer 2023 for those consoles.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is available on Steam and Nintendo Switch. Monster Rise is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
