The latest Nintendo Direct announced some unreal titles coming out later this year. Amongst the spectacular games is a highly anticipated entry in the Monsters series, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. It’s been around 13 years since a title has been released outside of Japan, giving this reveal quite a bit of weight!
Brought to us by Square Enix, Dragon Quest Monsters, is a monster collecting/breeding title set in the Dragon Quest universe. You scout opposing monsters (the success rate being dependent on your party’s power), raise them, and combine them into more powerful monsters. Some monsters are so big, that they take 1 or 2 more slots in your party!
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince shows off Psaro (who you may recognize from Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen), a demon prince who has been cursed, rendering him unable to harm anyone with monster blood with his own hands. Thus, Psaro takes on the title Monster Wrangler, so he can recruit and fight alongside monsters in his quest for revenge.
In the game, you traverse Nadiria, a world with regular cycling seasons of Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall. Each season transforms the landscape and opens up new areas to discover. Additionally, you’ll encounter different monster species that are specific to certain seasons, so rigorous exploration will be needed to find rare monsters!
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince has over 500 monsters to collect and synthesize, including franchise favorites (like Slimes), and some totally brand-new creatures. Once you’ve carefully crafted your team, you can take them online to battle other Monster Wranglers around the world!
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince will be available worldwide on December 1, 2023, only on Nintendo Switch.
