Despite a lack of Kingdom Hearts 3 at E3 2016, Square Enix still managed to show off the next generation of the series with gameplay from Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. The game, which serves as a prequel to Kingdom Hearts 3, was available on the show floor, but Square Enix also produced a nice montage for those of us who couldn’t make it to sunny California.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 signals multiple series firsts, with 1080p 60fps gameplay and a jump to the next generation with Unreal Engine 4. Gameplay for Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep—A Fragmentary Passage takes the major focus in the trailer, as the game will serve as the first hands on look at the direction Square Enix will be taking with Kingdom Hearts 3.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue launches December 2016 on PlayStation 4. Square Enix is expected to release more details for Kingdom Hearts 3 this holiday season.
