Released ten days ago, Warcraft has been named the most successful Video Game inspired movie of all time.
As of today, the film has grossed a total of $377.6 Million Worldwide, beating our the previous record holder, Prince of Persia, which sat at $335 Million when it was released in 2010. These numbers aren’t expected to grow too rapidly as ticket sales have declined nearly %73 in the United States since it’s opening weekend debut.
“It’s not a different kind of success story, it’s a global success story,” said Nick Carpou, Universal’s domestic distribution chief. “It has to do with the globalization of the theatrical business and the fact that international markets are getting stronger and stronger.”
A lot of the success can be contributed to China, as this territory brought in an estimated $156 Million during it’s first five days. This places Warcraft above other AAA films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Age of Ultron, making Warcraft one of best selling films in China.
Warcraft was released in theaters on June 10th, 2016.
