Nintendo’s next-generation console codenamed ‘NX‘ will contain physical and digital software.
When asked about the future of the Nintendo NX, Gamestop CEO Paul Raines commented that the console will contain feature physical and digital media, meaning retailers like EBGames and Gamestop will be stocking Nintendo NX titles in-store, even in preplayed titles. Raines states, “It will have physical media, we will play a role in it, our pre-owned business will also play a role. So we’re excited about that.”
Rumors have been circulating around the industry that gaming consoles will do away with physical media such as cartridges and discs, since before the Xbox One and Playstation 4 were officially revealed. These rumors are being supported by the rise in digital sales, with a lot of games now being released exclusively on digital markets.
The Nintendo NX is scheduled to hit retail shelves in March 2017.
