During the San Diego Comic-Con, Telltale Games released more information about their highly-anticipated episodic title The Walking Dead. With a third season coming out, hype regarding the series is as high as ever. Luckily, many will be glad to know that the new season is looking fantastic so far.
The press release makes a point to describe the new season’s Clementine as being independent and unprotected, standing shoulder to shoulder with mysterious newcomer Javier. Another super cool thing about the new season is that players will get to experience the story as both Clementine and this new character Javier, something that sets this season apart from all of Telltale’s other works, and opens new doors through which this story can be told and understood.
An important thing to remember about Season 3, is that while it serves as a direct continuation of the story that has already been told, it also serves as a direct jumping off point for new players to be introduced to the world (and to Clementine). Players starting in this season will also be introduced for the first time to AJ, young survivor and son to Rebecca from Season 2.
The press release can be quoted as saying: “players who are new to the series will have a chance to learn more about Clementine’s backstory, while at the same time, those who have played previous seasons will have a story that’s uniquely tailored to the diverging paths they’ve taken in the past.” This statement serves as the perfect clarification for how the team at Telltale Games plans to tackle the aspect of creating a special experience for both new players and longtime fans.
Creative Director Dennis Lenart was able to discuss how important it is to experience the story through Javier, and how the team was able to create a playable character that had no background knowledge of Clementine. The interesting thing about introducing this new character is that it allows old players to get to meet and know a character that they have helped shape, while also experiencing a new character trying to hold his family together in the midst of the undead apocalypse. The presence of this fresh character also allows for brand new players to get a unique way to be introduced to Clementine, the intrepid survivor that serves as a vital key in telling the Walking Dead story.
