The developer behind titles Fallout 4 and DOOM said that they would not be offering early review copies to the media for future releases.
In a blog statement produced by Bethesda, the company announced the decision not to hand out early review copies, for everyone, including media, to experience the game at the same time. Moving forward, Bethesda will continue to provide review copies to the press. However, it will be provided one day ahead of its release.
“With the upcoming launches of Skyrim Special Edition and Dishonored 2, we will continue our policy of sending media review copies one day before release. While we will continue to work with media, streamers, and YouTubers to support their coverage – both before and after release – we want everyone, including those in the media, to experience our games at the same time.”
Of course, this will impact all gaming media, including ourselves, from producing reviews ahead of its release. If consumers wait for reviews before purchasing a game, Bethesda says that they should wait for reviews to appear online, before making their purchase.
“We also understand that some of you want to read reviews before you make your decision,” Said Gary Steinman, Global Content Lead for Bethesda. “and if that’s the case we encourage you to wait for your favorite reviewers to share their thoughts.”
Bethesda’s next title, The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim: Special Edition, will be released on October 28th, 2016.
