Team17 announced through a new trailer of Yooka-Laylee that it would launch on April 11th, 2017.
The new trailer of the game, shown below, shows us a glimpse at what to expect in the Capital Cashino area of the game. We get a brief look at some of the genius level design and some of the character personalities found throughout the area, as well as some new tunes produced by Grant Kirkhope.
All is not good news it seems – as the Nintendo Wii U version fo Yooka-Laylee has been canceled. The team stated in a blog post “despite our best efforts and exploring every possible avenue, we’ve encountered unforeseen technical issues that unfortunately mean it will be impossible for us to release the game on Wii U as initially planned.”
While Wii U development has come to a close, Playtonic Games is working close with Nintendo to bring Yooka-Laylee to the Nintendo Switch. Fans who backed the game on Kickstarter and chose the Wii U as their platform of choice will be given a free version of another platform, including the Nintendo Switch; however, more details regarding this will come in early 2017.
Fans who pre-order their copy of Yooka-Laylee will receive the Toybox demo immediately, so they can begin testing some of the in-game mechanics scheduled to appear in the full game.
Yooka-Laylee arrives on Playstation 4, Xbox One, & PC on April 11th, 2017.
