Playtonic Games‘ Yooka-Laylee has officially gone gold, meaning the game is now finished and in production for retail and digital markets.
The spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, originally released on the Nintendo 64 started out as a Kickstarter project, amassing £2,090,104 of their required £175,000 to develop the game. Yooka-Laylee will feature music from Grant Kirkhope, cameos from other franchises, and a huge world for players to explore and collect.
Sadly the Nintendo Wii U version of the game was dropped, but in its place, a port to the Nintendo Switch is being developed. The developers stated, “despite our best efforts and exploring every possible avenue, we’ve encountered unforeseen technical issues that unfortunately mean it will be impossible for us to release the game on Wii U as initially planned.” You can read more about the delay here.
Yooka-Laylee releases on April 11th for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
