According to third-party sales records, the Nintendo Switch is selling faster than the PlayStation 4 in Japan; An impressive feat considering that the PlayStation 4 is one of the top-selling consoles in that market.
The figures come from the market research company Media Crate, reporting that the Nintendo Switch has moved 519,504 units as of March 26th, 2017; Outselling the PlayStation 4’s first months of sales which was 439,810 units. With the Nintendo Switch’s success since it’s official release on March 3rd, 2017, the production of the console has doubled, as Nintendo attempts to meet the demand for the new system.
The Switch holds a small light to it’s predecessor the Wii U, which sold around 500,000 units with the first three weeks of it’s release. At this point, it is hard to say how well the Nintendo Switch will make out in terms of sales, but we should know more as we approach the 2017 holiday season.
Nintendo’s new console still has a lineup of big games scheduled to launch such as Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8, and the highly anticipated Super Mario Odyssey. President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime promises that more surprises are on their way for the Nintendo Switch, as they plan for this year’s E3 convention.
The Nintendo Switch is available now.
