Microsoft officially revealed the specifications for their upcoming console, Project Scorpio.
The console is likely to give enthusiast-grade PC’s a run for their money, as Project Scorpio contains some of today’s best hardware in console form. Eurogamer and Digital Foundry have posted the final specifications for the Project Scorpio when it arrives this Fall.
Project Scorpio
CPU –Â Eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz
GPU – 40 customised compute units at 1172MHz
Memory (RAM) – 12GB GDDR5
Memory Bandwidth – 326GB/s
HD – 1 TB
Optical – 4K UHD Blu-ray
What does all of this mean for games? Well, Microsoft is promising native 4K output for most titles being run on the Project Scorpio. In the reveal with Eurogamer and Digital Foundry, the Scorpio was shown running a demo of Forza Motorsport at native 4K and at 60 frames-per-second. What is more impressive, was that this was being rendered in real-time, and only utilising about 60-70 percent of the hardware’s GPU, leaving plenty of breathing room for titles post-launch.
When compared to the Playstation 4 Pro, which sports a similar 2.1GHz CPU, a GPU with 911 MHz clock, 8GB of GDDR5 memory, and 218GB/s of Memory Bandwidth, Project Scorpio seems to take the cake in terms of hardware specifications.
It appears that the console will only be available in a 1 TB format, half less than the maximum capacity of the Xbox One S. We are hoping that Microsoft releases 2 TB and greater in the months after the Scorpio’s official release, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Microsoft is expected to give us a first look at the console on June 10th, 2017, during their E3 Press Conference. InformedPixel will be on scene to bring you the latest developments straight from the show floor. Make sure to follow us on social media platforms for more info as it arrives.
Project Scorpio is expected to arrive in stores this Fall.
