Ubisoft has officially unveiled Far Cry 5, announced that the game would be released for current generation platforms on February 28th, 2017.
The next game appears to play off the southern charm, based out of a fictional Hope County, Montana. The player will find themselves caught in the middle of a violent cult, called the Project of Eden. Joining the resistance, players will navigate their way to disrupting The Project of Eden as efficiently as possible, using anything they can find as a weapon to aid them in their conquest. Ubisoft released a trailer for the game, which you can catch after the break.
Perhaps one of the biggest announcements was the return of the famous Far Cry map editor. In Far Cry 5, players are given the opportunity to customize their own maps and share it across their respective platforms. More details about the map editor are promised at a later date, but it keeps us excited to hear of its return.
The game will be available in three different editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Gold. The Deluxe edition includes a variety of additional weapons, vehicles, and skins, whereas the Gold edition will toss in a steelbook case and the Far Cry 5 Season Pass, in addition to the content offered through the Deluxe edition. All of these editions are available through pre-order at select retailers.
Before the announcement, there were several unofficial findings of a new Far Cry game in development, including a financial report that was posted by analyst David Ahmed. The plan also mentioned other titles such as a sequel to The Crew and a new Assassin’s Creed title, but the publisher has yet to make any formal announcement regarding these titles.
Ubisoft mentions that Far Cry 5 will have support for Microsoft’s upcoming console, the Project Scorpio. Right now, we are unclear of what features will be included in the Scorpio version of the game, but we would venture that full 4K support and HDR gaming are part of that.
We should hear more details about Far Cry 5, as well as Ubisoft’s other titles, during their E3 Press Briefing on June 12th at 1 PM PT.
