Everybody remembers Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64. It was (and probably still is) one of the most popular games to ever release. My brother and I would rent the game (when renting was a thing) and spend hours playing. Sometimes we would run through the levels again. Other times we would just try to unlock cheat codes and weapons.
But then Bond disappeared. There were a number of cancelled games over the years, with a few attempts by companies to recapture the Goldeneye attention. James Bond 007: Nightfire came closest. The last game to release was in 2012, titled 007 Legends, and it didn’t receive a very welcome reception. Now a new James Bond game is coming.
Agent 0047
This time IO Interactive will be taking control. People may know them best as the company behind the Hitman series. They will be working closely with the James Bond movie companies MGM and Eon Productions for this instalment.
So far its only moniker is Project 007, which is sure to change in the next while. IO Interactive has released a teaser, but there isn’t much to see other than the famous gun-barrel sequence.
The website for the game, however, has a little more. Some text reads, “Featuring a wholly original Bond story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favourite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.” In other words, don’t expect a Daniel Craig impersonator.
Not happy to leave it at that, CEO of IO Interactive Hakan Abrak, said that “creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive… can deliver something extremely special.”
“Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio.”
