Fans of Japanese story-telling and visual novels have a lot to look forward to. I can’t claim to be one of them; I started this article by looking up the term “otome”, only to discover that it’s an entire genre. However, for those who are in the know, there’s a trio of announcements to be excited about. Aksys Games have 3 more “otome” games on the way.
Maiden Japan
All three will be from Idea Factory‘s Otomate label, following Code: Realize ~Winter Tide Miracles~ in February 2021. The new titles will be Olympia Soiree, Dairoku: Ayakashimori, and Variable Barricade. The entirety of the list will be releasing on Nintendo Switch.
“The Nintendo Switch is an ideal platform for visual novels,” said the founder and CEO of Aksys Games Akibo Shieh. “So many more people are discovering otome on the Switch and we are excited to deliver more popular and highly regarded games to English-speaking audiences.”
In Olympia Soiree, Olympia (one of the last of her clan) must perform a ritual to return light to a darkened world. While struggling through the society’s rigid class system, Olympia must find a partner to help bring unity to the land.
With Dairoku: Ayakashimori (English title pending), players control Shino. Her ability to perceive ghosts gets her a job with a secret government agency that keeps yokai under watch. But even she is not ready for the wondrous world of yokai that she must unite.
Finally, Variable Barricade sounds like a reality show: “Hibari’s wealthy grandfather is determined to find her a husband…and she’s just as determined not to accept! Will being forced to live in a luxurious villa with the hand-picked suitors result in an engagement?”
