Capcom hosted another showcase for all things Resident Evil. There was a lot of information about the upcoming content for Resident Evil village and the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake due next year, as well as other announcements that they revealed.
The End of the Winters Story
After launching in May 2021, Resident Evil Village carried on the story of Ethan Winters after being introduced in the previous game Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. After surviving his experience with the Baker family, he thought that was the end of the horror however, that all changed while relaxing in the evening with his wife Mia and newborn baby Rose.
Releasing on the 28th of October is Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. This will include four main pieces of content, Resident Evil Village, The Mercenaries Additional Orders, Third Person View, and lastly, Shadows of Rose DLC. You can also get the new content if you already have the base game with The Winters Expansion, which will become available the same day as the gold edition.
The Third Person view will give a new way to experience Ethan’s journey through the mysterious village. It is noted that you can swap between the two views at any time so that you can choose what style you like more and can experience key parts of the story in a way you might not of the previous time. If you do not want to wait till the release of the gold edition or the expansion, you can get the gameplay demo so you can try out 60 minutes of gameplay in the original view or the new Third Person View. The Demo is available to try now.
Arriving at the same time will be The Mercenaries Additional Orders. This brings a variety of new characters to play and new stages. You can play as Chris Redfield, with his brute strength and precise shooting skills. Next, we will have Karl Heisenberg, the villain for most of the game, wielding a huge hammer and the ability to control magnetic forces he will be a powerful defense and offense character to play as, and lastly, we have Lady Dimitrescu, the gigantic Vampire that the internet fell in love with, using her talon attacks and the ability to summon one of her daughters to help her.
Lastly is Shadows of Rose, which is the epilogue to the Winters’ story set 16 years after the main story of Resident Evil Village where you play as rose, who travels through the remnants of the village to gain an understanding of her powers and survive the horrors that are still in that haunting place.
Resident Evil Re:Verse
Originally supposed to be released at the same time as Resident Evil Village, it had delay after delay, but it is finally coming out on the 28th of October with early access starting from the 24th of October till release. It will support cross-play and will be free for all owners of the base game or Gold Edition. Capcom also announced that it has plans to update this game several times, including the road map of new content coming to the game post-launch.
Switch Releases
Previously announced that Resident Evil would be coming to the Nintendo Switch now we have been given more information and the release dates for the following, Resident Evil Village will be on the 28th of October, with The Winters Expansion arriving later on the 2nd of December, Resident Evil 2 Remake on the 11th November, Resident Evil 3 Remake on the 18th November and lastly Resident Evil 7 on the 16th December.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
The main area of interest from this showcase was our first look at the gameplay for the Remake. The game looks beautiful and shows the improvements that they have made to the iconic locations from the original game. Things to note from the gameplay are the smoothness of the movement and the fluid new parry move that was not present previously. There are several familiar parts that they haven’t changed, such as the Attache case, as well as everyone’s favorite merchant with a fresh new style to his model. The main enemy AI has also had a few changes in how they will come at Leon with grabs and more up-close attacks, which I am sure will make that new parry move a reliable option to deal with them.
Lastly, the Deluxe and Collectors Editions revealed what you would get for each version. The pre-orders are also live on Xbox, Playstation Store, and Steam.
There was a lot of information revealed during the showcase from all of the different projects that are coming out in the next six months and beyond. As a huge fan of the series, I am incredibly excited to play the DLC on the 28th, as well as Re:Verse. With the Resident Evil 4 Remake on the docket for next year.
