Do you think about changing the weather? If you could control any aspect of the weather, what would your first power be? Would you freeze lakes to walk across them, grow plants to harvest or change the colors of leaves? Or would you go bigger, changing entire climates, say, making the entire Earth as hot as Australia?
While these sorts of changes would have dire consequences in reality, in Ary and The Secret of Seasons, the player must use these elemental powers for ecosystem manipulation.
Weather the Weather
The game follows Ary (short for Aryelle), as she explores the “great world of Valdi.” Ary has the ability to manipulate the seasons, which is a result of her being the Guardian of Winter. The player will control the seasons to “defeat enemies, overcome obstacles, and solve complex puzzles”. Before the birth of Ary, a evil mage threatened Valdi.
He was imprisoned in a vault after being defeated by the Legendary Warrior. Four Great Sages swore to protect that vault, to never allow his freedom. Thus, the Guardians of Seasons formed, a “secretive organization now steeped history and legend.” A mysterious force sends the seasons into disarray, and Ary will find the source of the problem for the Guardians of Seasons.
Ary will traverse sweeping landscapes, solving puzzles to progress and learning more about the ancient group. The player will leap between ecosystems and manipulate the world in order to meet their needs and progress. Seasons won’t be her only weapon. There will also be combat, where Ary will use different tools to get by. The cartoonish look and the soundtrack also look to deliver on the seasonal magic.
Originally set for a July release, Ary and The Secret of Seasons was recently delayed until a September 2020 release. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
