In the past week, we have gotten a lot of amazing upcoming game announcements and updates to look forward to. Some were expected, while others came out of left field. One of the more out-of-left-field reveals was Ubisoft‘s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, an adventure FPS game seemingly not unlike the Far Cry series.
Trailer Analysis
The trailer starts off with a voice-over in Na’vi, speaking about being defined by one’s actions. It transitions into several sweeping shots of the beautiful landscape of Pandora. The wildlife is suddenly interrupted by an RDA landing with mechs, decimating everything in their path.
After some shots further showing the aftermath and devastation, we get a look at our protagonist, speaking about being taken by the RDA, and trained in military-style combat. She laments that the Na’vi shouldn’t know how to do any of what she has learned. In additional exposition, we learn that the RDA had evacuated the compound, attempting to kill all of the Na’vi in training there.
Luckily, a teacher decided to save our protagonist, putting them into cryosleep. After fifteen years, she awakens, now free once again to explore the world, climbing, jumping, and flying all around her newly rediscovered surroundings. Pandora is ripe with sights, and our protagonist relishes in the freedom to finally decide on her own who she wants to be. She can now once again be a part of her people and culture, learning in all the ways she was denied while imprisoned.
However, an RDA returns, and our protagonist decides to use the skills she was taught by the enemy, in order to protect her home. A montage of fast-paced action begins as she uses a combination of weapons, including arrows and guns, to destroy those who would attack her home. The battle ensues both on land and in the air.
The trailer ends with the title and a release date announcement of December 7, 2023. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is currently confirmed for release on Playstation, Xbox, and PC.
