During the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase at E3 2021, Battlefield 2042 made a mind-blowing appearance with a new gameplay trailer! Offering as an in-game extension of the reveal, this trailer shows off alpha gameplay and some crazy feats in real-time!
Battlefield 2042 will feature extensive maps with up to 128 players filling them to the brim! Battlefield fans know how hectic 64 player matches can get, and the trailer shows just how insane 128 players really is!
The game is powered by the Frostbite engine and has an entirely new physics engine supporting it. This allows for the world to react to the chaos naturally, but most importantly, new ways for foot soldiers & vehicles to perform new ridiculous stunts!
The large majority of the gameplay trailer features a map called “Hourglass, ” set in Doha, Qatar. The desertification of the city offers dynamic gameplay for infantry players, which the trailer primarily focuses on.
Infantry Power
Several additions have been made to infantry gameplay, some of which will available depending on the specialists. An example is the addition of a grappling hook, which a player uses to quickly scale a crane, landing to see an ally assassinate an enemy player.
One of the most valuable additions is the ability to customise weapons in real-time, allowing for players to adapt to the warzone as it changes! Additionally, infantry can call in vehicles such as tanks that can be airdropped to their location on demand!
Different maps will also feature unique paths for foot soldiers to take. Hourglass has ziplines from rooftop to rooftop, allowing for quick travel and a quick drop on enemies. However, this leaves players out in the open for both snipers and vehicles to take potshots at.
Four-wheelers make for a great tool that infantryman can use, as players since Battlefield 3 know all too well. A player straps C4 to a four-wheeler in the gameplay, while another drives it off of a skyscraper into a helicopter, as the C4 explodes! This mirrors a scene from the reveal trailer as well!
Vehicle Madness
The use of vehicles is a franchise staple, and Battlefield 2042 is continuing that in spades. From air vehicles to tanks and even four-wheelers, players will have more options to traverse the map & engage in combat than ever before!
With a new lit-up HUD and the option to fly in first or third person, piloting combat helicopters looks more user-friendly than ever before. This will be important since dog fights will be occurring far more often, and pilots will have to worry about dynamic weather events.
Tanks are as deadly as ever! With a less janky physics engine, tanks can roll over other vehicles and through walls as if they are nothing. They also seem to drive faster as well, even doing a jump over a hill while pursuing an armoured vehicle, shooting it in midair!
However, it seems vehicles at large are no match to dynamic weather events such as tornados. It’ll be essential for pilots and drivers to keep their distance during these events, as their heavy armour won’t save them from being hurtled across the map!
Dynamic Events
As the reveal trailer promised, Battlefield 2042 highlights large-scale destruction with dynamic weather and levolution events! Thankfully, the news gameplay reveal shows off many of those elements as they happen during the experience.
While destruction isn’t highlighted as much as the weather events, it’s still a big part of the experience. Such as tanks rolling over cars, walls being blown in, and helicopters are crashing into buildings! The big focus is the dynamic weather, which is simply a fantastic new feature.
Hourglass has a big dynamic weather event is a massive sandstorm that blows into the city. Blotting out all-natural light and causing extreme chaos; the sandstorm makes it harder to see enemies as it blows debris around.
In typical Battlefield fashion, the sandstorm is just the beginning of the madness. A tornado brews within the sandstorm, causing a direct threat to anybody who gets near it! Unless a foot soldier can use a wingsuit to ride it out, of course!
