Battlefield 2042 has been officially announced during a special Livestream event held by EA and DICE! The reveal trailer shows off the impressive game engine, new features, and the new period! The legendary large-scale multiplayer franchise is entering a semi-futuristic generation of war! Battlefield 2042 looks like a true spiritual sequel to Battlefield 4 while also acting as a prequel of sorts to Battlefield 2142.
2042‘s backstory involves an ongoing conflict between the last two major superpowers, the United States and Russia. In a battle over scarce recourses between cataclysmic natural disasters, the world has changed, and war has evolved.
Only In Battlefield
Unlike its historic-based predecessors Battlefield 1 & Battlefield V, this new entry embraces the over-the-top nature of large-scale battles! Featuring extensive destructible environments, dangerous weather, and new technology ready to blow stuff up!
Battlefield 2042‘s will feature massive dynamic events and storms that will evolve the ever-changing state of gameplay. The large arsenals of weapons, vehicles and advanced technology open up a wide range of possibilities that the reveal trailer gloats in spades.
There are ridiculously insane feats that players can pull off! From ejecting mid-flight to destroy a pursuing aircraft with a bazooka and re-embarking, to launching a 4-wheeler into an attack-chopper! The possibilities are endless, including riding out a tornado wearing a wingsuit!
Players can destroy sections of a given map to alter the level-flow, and dynamic weather will change how players maneuver the map. All of this comes together to create “Only in Battlefield” moments that the series is famous for!
The Return of All Out Warfare
DICE released a flood of exciting details alongside the reveal trailer as well! Battlefield 2042 returns to the all-out warfare that many fans, such as myself, loved about Battlefield 3 & 4!
Players will be able to customize their own Specialists based on the standard 4-class setup. Each specialist has their own specialty and trait; outside of that, their loadout is fully customizable, allowing for maximum utilization of squads!
At launch, the game will feature 7 massive multiplayer maps! Game modes such as Conquest, Breakthrough, and the new Hazard Zone will support up to 128-players on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5! Meanwhile, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will only play on 64-player servers with smaller versions of the maps.
Battlefield 2042 will be adopting a live-service model that will evolve and expand the game post-launch. Each season will last for roughly 3-months, delivering both free and paid Battle-Passes that will give players more content consistently.
