Bethesda Softworks has made a further twelve games from their iconic franchises available on Xbox Game Pass, making the Bethesda library on Game Pass stand at an impressive twenty games. This follows the completion of Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company.
Bethesda games such as Fallout 4, Prey, and multiple instalments from the DOOM and Wolfenstein franchises have landed on Game Pass and are playable now.
With the most recent Bethesda titles, such as DOOM Eternal, standing alongside enduring classics like The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Xbox Game Pass now presents the most accessible way to play a comprehensive collection of Bethesda games.
The $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax Media by Microsoft was announced last September, but has now been approved by the European Commission. Bethesda was officially welcomed to Team Xbox with a roundtable discussion featuring the likes of Phil Spencer, Todd Howard and other key members from both parties.
The addition of Bethesda’s eight development studios, including id Software and Arkane, sees Xbox expand to own 23 first-party game studios. While there has been much speculation as to the future of Bethesda games when it comes to console exclusivity, Phil Spencer clarified this point in a recent post on Xbox Wire.
He said: ‘With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players.’
Bethesda Game Studios are currently working on the highly anticipated Starfield as well as The Elder Scrolls VI, while MachineGames are developing a new Indiana Jones game which was announced in January.
With Xbox teasing that they ‘will have more to share later this year’, gamers can expect to see what the Bethesda teams have been working on in 2021.
