This year, Bethesda made the exciting announcement that they were planning to allow mods on both Fallout 4 and the soon to be released Skyrim Remastered on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This news effectively built hype for the game since it’s announcement but recently Bethesda announced that at this point in time, mods are sadly going to be exclusive to the Xbox One.
While Sony hasn’t made any statements on this development yet, Bethesda put out an official statement on their website earlier today.
“After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.
Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.
We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.”
Currently, mods are completely available on the Xbox One for Fallout 4 and players can assume that they will be completely accessible in Skyrim Remastered, to be released later this year.  While mods are currently are not supported on the PlayStation 4, Fallout 4 is still available to PlayStation gamers and Skyrim Remastered will still be released at the projected release date of October 28th, 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
