Do those “Unlikely Animal Friends” compilations on social media just warm your heart? If so you will definitely want to check out Blanc, a video game about just that, which releases today!
Blanc was originally unveiled during the June 2022 Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase. The game comes to us courtesy of Gearbox Studios and developer Casus Ludi. Gearbox is well known for games such as the Borderlands series, Risk of Rain, Hyperlight Drifter, and Godfall. In contrast, this is the first release for France-based developers Casus Ludi. Blanc is a beautifully hand-drawn, 3D, fully black and white, storytelling and adventure-based game.
Blanc follows the journey of a wolf cub and a fawn whose paths cross when they’re both caught in a snowstorm, separated from their respective families. The unlikely pairing each has its own unique strengths, whereas the other is often weaker, leading them to team up to overcome obstacles they may not have been able to take on by themselves. Together the creatures must track the left behind footprints and clues in an attempt to locate and reunite with their loved ones. Blanc is certainly a stand-out in heavily story-based games, as the story is told completely text free, conveyed through the emotional animation and art style.
Blanc can also be played cooperatively with another person- single system, locally, or from a distance online. This makes the game a perfect opportunity to bond with long-distance loved ones while experiencing a warm and emotional adventure together. When played in co-op one player controls the wolf cub, while one controls the fawn. So the real question is- which cozy creature will you be calling ‘dibs’ on?
