Crystals, tarot cards, potions, magic- I love all things witchy or mystical. Therefore, when Devolver Digital and Deconstructeam revealed the first glimpses of The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, I was pretty quickly invested. If you grew up (or still are!) fascinated by all things mystic and fantastic, it’s no stretch to say this game may fit your vibe as well.
Protagonist Fortuna makes a pact with a legendary creature, which allows her to create her own tarot card deck. Each card can be imbued with special arcana, providing characters with a range of different magical abilities. The ability to grant one’s self different powers and abilities at the draw of a card ultimately also offers Fortuna the unique and powerful opportunity to mould her own fate and possibly that of those around her. However, almost without exception where life-changing pacts are concerned, there’s usually some catch. One must wonder what dark cost Fortuna may have to pay for the new powers afforded to her.
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is Devolver Digital and Deconstructeam’s fourth joint venture, previously having teamed up to release The Red Strings Club, Gods Will Be Watching, and Essays on Sympathy. Devolver Digital has a great reputation for teaming up with smaller indie studios to help offer their games to wider audiences, perhaps most recently receiving high praise for the hit Cult of the Lamb. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is rendered fully in visually stunning pixel art and is highly narrative-based- using a branching story mechanic to place high importance on each decision players make along their journey. The utilization of branching storylines ensures a unique experience from player to player, truly defining their own personal destiny.
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood is available now on GOG, Steam, and Nintendo Switch!
