The Dark Souls trilogy is known for its hardcore audience. The games themselves can be quite difficult; the community can be somewhat dismissive with the whole “git gud” thing, but I personally find it to be amusing; the lore is vague but deep for those willing to explore its ephemeral nature and the series produces some of the most interesting and intense boss fights to release on the last two generations of consoles. There’s plenty of reason to play any of the Dark Souls games (or, in this case, all 3), but one thing is not in doubt– gamers who love Dark Souls really, REALLY love Dark Souls.
And that will ensure this particular Collector’s Edition for the upcoming release of the Dark Souls Trilogy in Europe, set for delivery at the beginning of May 2019 and extending through June 2019, is a much-coveted item. While the trilogy had its North American release on October 19th, 2018, there was no real attempt to persuade a purchase with the promise of loot alongside the games. Bandai Namco has decided to rectify that with this Collector’s Edition (releasing for both the Xbox One and Playstation 4) of which they are manufacturing only 2,000. This edition costs roughly $580 American ($769 CAD) and comes with:
- All 3 Dark Souls games and their corresponding DLC (Dark Souls: Remastered, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, and Dark Souls 3: The Fire Fades)
- A high-quality, hand-painted and numbered 34-cm (27.5 inch) statue of the Elite Knight, complete with a bonfire
- A Dark Souls Trilogy Soundtrack– music from all 3 games over a total of 6 CDs
- A 460-page Dark Souls Compendium (only in English) which will have detailed maps of boss and NPC locations, a bestiary, and an item encyclopedia, among other useful details
For those who haven’t played the series yet, aren’t interested in the extra collectibles, or don’t think the amount is worth it, there is good news– the Standard Edition of the Dark Souls Trilogy will be released on March. 1st 2019 for both the Xbox One and Playstation 4. The lucky few who did decide to splurge (it’s a First Come, First Serve model), the 2-month delivery window is due to each statues being hand-painted.
